ACD NSW seeks to influence government policy on a range of issues through lobbying, meetings with politicians, talk-back radio and formal submissions.  Some of the issues on which we are currently working include:

  • A National Scheme for funding disability services, potentially with a community levy.  Click here for more information on the National Disability Insurance Scheme. ACD NSW has lent its name to the attached Submission.

  • Accommodation for people with a disability. For more information, see  Models of Supported Accommodation for People with a Disability and Accommodation for All who need it:  A Reality, Not a dream

  • DADHC recently released a Discussion Paper on New Directions for Disability Respite Services in NSW. Katrina Clark wrote a comprehensive submission on behalf of ACD (over 56 pages!) in which she steps through a variety of current respite models and provides submissions with respect to each as to how the service could be improved, and then propose new models for consideration by DADHC.

  • Monitoring the current review by NSW Health of PADP funding. Click here to view ACD NSW’s Submission to the NSW Legislative Council’s Inquiry into PADP.

  • Bill Higman is preparing an ACD submission on disability parking. The government is seeking community feedback for its "Harmonisation of disability parking permit schemes in Australia". But please, think about putting in your individual submissions. There is nothing more powerful than a direct voice.

  • Education of students with disabilities

  • Child Protection

  • Funding for wheelchair-accessible vehicles

  • Accessible and safe public transport for people in wheelchairs

  • Direct funding models.  For more information, see  http://www.in-control.org.au

  • Vacation care and after-school care for children with a disability

  • School Transport
